Roof top tents in British Columbia

The only province where the coast gives you a frost-free summer and a three-hour drive inland takes it away again. BC also has the clearest Crown-land camping rule in the country: 14 days, and the clock only resets if you leave.

Getting it to British Columbia

BC is the one province where the fixed link is a boat for a lot of buyers. The Lower Mainland and the Okanagan are straightforward highway freight. Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast add a BC Ferries sailing, and a crated tent travels as freight on that sailing rather than in your car, which is a separate charge most carriers pass through rather than absorb.

North of Prince George the distances stop being the issue and the terminal network becomes it: there are stretches of Highway 37 and Highway 16 where the nearest freight terminal is several hours from the delivery address, and carriers price that as a beyond-area service rather than a longer trip.

We do not publish a flat delivery rate for this province, and we are not going to invent one. A crated roof top tent is freight, not a parcel. Order first — nothing is charged — then message WhatsApp +1 672-203-4941 with your order number and postal code. We confirm stock and the exact delivery cost to your address, and only then do the payment details go out. See delivery and how to pay.

Where you can legally sleep in it

BC publishes a real number, which is rarer than it should be. You may camp on Crown land for up to 14 consecutive days. The detail that catches people is the reset: the count only starts again once you, your vehicle and your equipment have been off the site for at least 72 consecutive hours. Moving 200 metres down the same spur road on day 15 does not restart anything.

The same 14-day limit applies at the province’s forest recreation sites under the Forest Recreation Regulation, and a recreation officer can issue an order to vacate that also bars camping on Crown land within one kilometre of the site. Provincial parks are a separate system with their own 14-day rule and their own officers.

Where these rules come from

How long your season actually is

Two stations, because BC is really two climates for this purpose. At Vancouver the table shows no freezing nights at all from May through September — a three-season tent covers the entire usable season on the coast, and the honest advice is to spend the difference on a better mattress rather than on insulation you will not use.

Kamloops tells the other story. Nights are warmer than Vancouver’s in midsummer and then fall off a cliff: six freezing nights in an average October against Vancouver’s one. Interior and mountain trips in late September and October are where a four-season tent earns its price in this province, and elevation moves these numbers far more than the drive time suggests.

These are long-run averages for one weather station, not a forecast for your campsite, and elevation moves them more than latitude does.

Pickup and installation

No. There is no pickup point and no install partner in BC yet. Everything is shipped, and we would rather say that than list a warehouse address you cannot visit.

Start with the roof, not the tent

Wherever you are in Canada, the binding number is your vehicle’s dynamic roof load — what the manufacturer allows while you are driving — and the bars count toward it on many vehicles. Static load, the figure that covers you and your passengers asleep up there, is usually three to five times higher, which is why the people in the tent are not the constraint.

Check your vehicle against the published figures first: will it fit? — and if your vehicle is not in the table yet, say so on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly that we do not have a manufacturer figure for it rather than guess at one.
